President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani chaired the National Security Council meeting on Sunday 5th July 2015. The meeting was called to discuss the recent incident involving martyrdom of a number of local police forces in Jalrez district of Maidan Wardak province.
Praising the bravery and resistance of the local police, the meeting strongly condemned the grievous incident and called it a war crime and a crime against humanity.
Vowing that the brutal incident will not go un-responded, the President said that a high ranking fact-finding government delegation has been appointed to look into the causes of the incident and report their findings to the Office of the President within three days. The President stressed that any negligence will be dealt with according to the law.
President Ghani added that another delegation has been appointed to present the condolences and sympathies of the president and leadership of the Government to the families of the martyrs of Jarlez district.
The meeting also discussed ways to encourage the local police forces present in the incident and ensure that they remain effectively employed in the framework of local police.
The National Security Council Meeting concluded that serious measures be put in place to prevent occurrence of such incidents in the future. The meeting called for improvement of coordination within the security forces and timely response by the Quick Reaction Forces.
The National Security Council Meeting also reiterated enhancing the capabilities of security forces and setting up mechanisms for speedy deployment of support forces around the country.
