At the outset, the Foreign Minister expressed his appreciation for the valuable cooperation of the UK with Afghanistan in areas of security and development, especially UK’s 750 million pound pledge at the Brussels Conference. He also talked about the security situation of the country, recent achievements of the government and its efforts for peace and development, and electoral reforms.
Considering the friendly relations of the UK with some countries of the region and UK’s influence on those countries, the Foreign Minister Sallahuddin Rabbani called UK’s role effective in urging them for a decisive regional struggle against terrorism and asked for UK’s cooperation in this regard.
Subsequently, UK’s Foreign Secretary gave his assurance of UK’s continuous commitment for cooperation with Afghanistan, especially in the security field and backing the efforts of the government of Afghanistan in ensuring peace and stability.
During this meeting, both sides agreed to hold the third consultative meeting on political issues of both countries at the level of deputy ministers in London in the coming two months.
