Visa Types and Requirements

Child Visa

Entry permits are required for all Afghan children born outside Afghanistan and/or are holders of British or other nationalities. If the child is born to Afghan parents in Afghanistan, and his/her place of birth is specified to be in Afghanistan in his/her passport, entry permits are not required.

To apply for a child visa, the followings are required:

  • Appointment by telephone
  • Both parents must be present. The child is not required to be present. We require both parents’ consent for the child’s travel to Afghanistan
  • Child Visa Application Form, filled out correctly and legibly
  • Birth Certificate with both parents’ details (Please bring original and 1 copy)
  • Parents’ passport (Please bring original and 1 copy)
  • The issued permit is for a period of one year with multiple entries free of charge

Business Visa
Business visas are issued to individuals who intend to or are doing business in Afghanistan. Individuals wishing to work in Afghanistan for purposes other than business must apply for an employment visa. Business visas can be issued for single or multiple entries for a period of 3 months to one year. The duration of stay in Afghanistan for these visas (per visit) is capped to 30 days for a 3 months single entry visa, 60 days for a 6 months multiple entry visa and 180 days for a 1 year multiple entry visa.

The followings are required for a business visa application:

  • An appointment using our online visa appointment booking service or by telephone
  • Visa application form, filled out correctly and legibly
  • One recent photo of the applicant
  • A letter of invitation from the relevant NGO/organization/company/agency in Afghanistan to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan
  • The business’s Registration Certificate with the Ministry of Economy in Afghanistan or registration document from Afghanistan Investment Support Agency (AISA)

 

Note: All fees paid for the visa application are non-refundable irrespective of the outcome of the application. The validity of the visa begins from the date of issue of the visa.

Employment Visa
Employment visas are granted to those who intend to or are working in Afghanistan. Employment visas can be issued for single or multiple entries for a period of 3 months to one year. The duration of stay in Afghanistan for these visas (per visit) is capped to 30 days for a 3 months single entry visa, 60 days for a 6 months multiple entry visa and 180 days for a 1 year multiple entry visa.

 

The followings are required for an employment visa application:

  • An appointment using our online visa appointment booking service or by telephone
  • Visa Application form, filled out correctly and legibly
  • One recent photo of the applicant
  • A clearance letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan (or MoFA reference/Fax number); and/or
  • A work permit obtained from the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. For further information on how to obtain a work permit, click here

 

Note: Employment visas are non-convertible, but can be extended in Afghanistan through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. All the fees paid for the visa application are non-refundable irrespective of the outcome of the application. The validity of the visa begins from the date of issue of the visa.

Media Visa

Media visas are granted to all foreign journalists/individuals who intend to visit Afghanistan for any purpose associated with media. Journalists/Individuals wishing to work for Afghan media organisations must apply for an employment visa. Media visas can be issued for single or multiple entries for a period of 3 months to one year. The period of stay in Afghanistan for these visas is capped to 30 days (per visit).

 

The followings are required for a media visa application:

  • An appointment using our online visa appointment booking service or by telephone
  • Visa Application form, filled out correctly and legibly
  • One recent photo of the applicant
  • A letter from their media organisation confirming the purpose and duration of the trip
  • After the media visa is issued, all journalists MUST attend the Office of the Spokesman & Director General of Communications of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to obtain a journalist card. Without this card, journalists will not be allowed to carry out their duties.

Tourist Visa

Tourist visas are granted to all foreign nationals who intend to visit Afghanistan for casual visits to meet family and friends, sight-seeing, recreation, etc. Any other activities such as business and work are not permissible on a tourist visa. Individuals wishing to work in Afghan must apply for an employment visa. Tourist visas are issued for a period of 3 months with a single entry. The period of stay in Afghanistan for a tourist visa is capped to 60 days.

 

The followings are required for a tourist visa application:

  • An appointment using our online visa appointment booking service or by telephone
  • Visa Application, filled out correctly and legibly
  • One recent photo of the applicant
  • Invitation letter from the person who is inviting the applicant to Afghanistan, or a reliable official or duly registered entity in Afghanistan; or a letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul to authorise the visit
  • Evidence of Employment in the UK
  • Utility bills or a bank statement as a proof of address in the UK
  • A personal statement describing the purpose of the journey, where and with whom the applicant will be residing and the residence address during the visit
  • The statement should also indicate that the applicant is aware of the risks involved in the journey and takes full responsibility of any liability arising during or as a result of the trip to Afghanistan

 

Note: Tourist visas are not extendable and non-convertible. All fees paid for the visa application are non-refundable irrespective of the outcome of the application. The validity of the visa begins from the issue date of the visa.

Spouse Visa

A spouse visas is granted to the spouse of an Afghan national wishing to visit Afghanistan. Spouse visas are issued for a period of 6 months with a multiple entry. The period of stay in Afghanistan for a spouse visa is limited to 90 days.

 

The followings are required for a media visa application:

  • An appointment using our online visa appointment booking service or by telephone
  • Visa application form, filled correctly and legibly
  • One recent photo of the applicant
  • Marriage certificate and/or their child’s birth certificate (if applicable)
  • Photocopy of the Afghan husband/wife’s passport
  • A utility bill or bank statement, as a proof of address in the UK
  • Spouse’s personal statement describing the purpose of the journey, where and with whom the applicant will be residing and the residence address during the visit
  • The statement should also indicate that the applicant is aware of the risks involved in the journey and takes full responsibility of any liability arising during or as a result of the trip to Afghanistan
  • Invitation letter from Afghanistan (if available)

Note: If the Marriage Certificate or child’s Birth Certificate (with both parents’ details) is not registered in the UK, the applicant must apply for an entry visa. If the applicant has a valid Marriage Certificate or their child’s Birth Certificate, the Spouse visa will be issued free of charge.

 

Official and Diplomatic Visas

Official and diplomatic visas are granted to holders of service, diplomatic and UN passports who intend to visit Afghanistan for official purposes. Official or diplomatic visas can be issued for single or multiple entries for a period of 3 months to one year. The duration of stay in Afghanistan for these visas (per visit) is capped to 30 days for a 3 months single entry visa, 90 days for a 6 months multiple entry visa and 180 days for a 1 year multiple entry visa.

 

The followings are required for an official and diplomatic visa application:

  • An appointment using our online visa appointment booking service or by telephone
  • Official Note Verbal from relevant government department requesting for the visa and specifying the purpose and duration of the visit
  • Visa application form filled out correctly and legibly
  • One recent photo of the applicant
  • Diplomatic, official or UN passport of the applicant, with at least six months validity
  • New diplomats deployed to Afghanistan to replace a diplomatic post, must provide a letter to confirm the full name and position of the diplomat that is being replaced and indicate when and for how long the applicant is intending to take charge of this position.  This process can take up to 3 weeks.
  • For diplomats or officials visiting Afghanistan for a short time or a meeting, the normal procedure still applies.

Note: The note verbal or the official letter provided shall not be dated more than two weeks prior to the date of the application. The validity of the visa begins from the issue date of the visa.
