The University of York welcomes Dr Yaar, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the UK during his visit as a guest of the York Politics Society on May 2, 2014.
His Excellency Dr Yaar visited the University at the invitation of the York Politics Society on 2 May 2014. The purpose of the visit was for the Ambassador to give a talk to the Society entitled “Afghanistan: Achievements, Opportunities, and Challenges” which was very well attended by students.
While in York, Ambassador Yaar also took the time to meet with staff from the Department of Politics and the Post-war Reconstruction and Development Unit (PRDU) with the assistance of the University’s International Relations Department, where he heard first-hand about how the Unit has conducted research in the country that has directly affected policy including the evaluation of the Afghan government and World Bank National Solidarity Programme (NSP).
Dr Kenneth Bush, Executive Director of PRDU said “The Politics Society is to be heartily congratulated for making this happen. The post-lecture meeting was also a great success. I am confident that the Ambassador has left the University with very positive impressions of our teaching, research and commitment to making positive change in the world.”
Dr Kenneth Bush stated: “While we were very glad to host Ambassador Yaar, we were deeply saddened by the news of the tragic events in Aab Barik village on the following day, and we sent condolences to Dr Yaar”.
