Ambassador Jawad spoke at Imperial College London about recent events in Afghanistan, its current political climate and future trajectory, offering the students an opportunity to question their own current understanding.
The Ambassador covered amongst other things UK’s support for Afghanistan, as one of the largest donors, expressing Afghan gratitude for significant progress made in the sectors of education, healthcare, economic growth and women’s rights. He also discussed Afghanistan’s foreign policy priorities in maintaining international support for the country’s sustainable stabilisation and development, on the basis of shared interests of the region and beyond.
The topics of Al Qaeda, Daesh and Taliban have also been touched upon with a focus on peace building and reconciliation on the Afghanistan-Pakistan front, improving relations and having more regional cooperation which will lead to more economic development. The Ambassador was pleased to answer the student’s question and to hear their interests and concerns for the future of Afghanistan and the region.
We would like to thank Imperial College London for offering the Politico-Economic lecture series as intellectually stimulating platforms that provide students with the educational tools and motivation to dissect current affairs and develop a broader political perspective.
